Brookview Happenings Herbicide sprayed along Multi-Use Trail today & Tree replacement in Bulyea Park

Noxious Weeds

City of Edmonton staff sprayed herbicide on the noxious weeds along the perimeter multi-use trail this morning (north of Bulyea Road). Herbicide signs are posted along the trail indicating the trail was sprayed today (July 30) and will be ready for use tomorrow (July 31). The herbicide targets noxious weeds like thistles and Great Burdock. We have some Great Burdock creeping in to our neighbourhood. I've attached a photo of one of the plants that was along the multi-use trail. These weeds grow up to 1.5 metres tall. The City has already removed three Great Burdock plants along the trail and they sprayed the remaining one this morning. City staff indicate they will be coming back with a shovel to dig up the last one.

If you see thistles or Great Burdock along City of Edmonton trails or in any of Brookview's Parks, please report them using the 311 App. Select the Community and Neighborhood category, then select Noxious Weeds - Public Property. Please provide a detailed description of where they are. If the City comes out and cannot find them, they close the ticket with "no action taken". You can also phone 311 with the details or report it online at https://311.edmonton.ca/reports/list_services

The City relies on Edmontonians to report invasive plants on public and private property. You can learn more about Edmonton's noxious weeds and what the City is doing to address them at https://www.edmonton.ca/programs_services/pests/weed-identification

Tree Replacement in Bulyea Park

The City has started replacing the dead trees in Bulyea Park. There's been some confusion about who is responsible for maintaining the trees in the area behind George Luck School. I’ve followed up with the City regarding this. City staff have looked into it and now confirm that the Bulyea Park trees that are by the school do fall under the City of Edmonton's responsibility. These are the trees along the path near the school and the ones close to the school dumpsters. I’ve been assured by the City that they will be out to address the four dead trees in this area, hopefully this year.
