I agree the grey rock does look kinda odd against the red brick and brass. If anything i would have updated tje brass wording...maybe flowers in spring and summer will make it look more attractive???

Hello,
Thank you for sharing this thread.

I was wondering seeing the same about the large rocks, they block the sign.

When I heard they were being redone, I expected and was excited to see refreshed greenery.  I am significantly disappointed that there is no flowerbed involved; to have rocks is typical. To have a flowerbed is a privilege and I am sad to have seen ours go.

Yes, I can’t say I think the new landscaping in front of the signs is attractive. I am disappointed. I understand the need for low maintenance landscaping but the choice of materials could be improved upon.

Hi Harold,
I share similar views being shared in your email.

I think they do not complement the feature entrances and do not match the ones off Terwillegar.

Landscaping with greenery ( bushes, flowers) are more pleasing and would complement the beautiful red brick entrances.
The addition/ Reno looks out of place and honestly looked better before the reno.

Frankly I think it looks ugly – a definite stepdown to what was?  What was wrong with what we had?  Why are we spending money on something that doesn’t need fixing?

I live on Buchanan Road and I really LIKE the large rocks in the newly re-done landscaping in front of the brick street signs.  Nothing says 'cheap' like a bunch of small stones without an accent and the new large rock provides that accent.  The signage is not blocked (the signs are angled and you can't see the letters until near from side streets...no change there... and turning off Bulyea, there is no blockage whatsoever), flowers would also cast a shadow, a bunch of smaller rocks would look cheap, greenery would need regular clean-up and maintenance so it's  not a good idea.

Honestly, I like this upgrade and so do neighbors I've talked with.  As far as kids playing on the one large rock...they could have played on the brick signage and fallen off, tripped on the previous landscaping and cracked their heads on the brick sign...there will always be 'something' that could happen and it's up to the parents and the teachers to educate the children to respect property and themselves by not doing those things.

Keep the new upgrades.

I like the new hard scape.  It is clean looking and is very low maintenance.  We have tried greenery and it did not work as it was not maintained very well.  The hard scape is a modern, nice clean look and when we and visitors see the street signs, the overgrown shrubs and weeds are not an eyesore.  I think the hard scape modernizes our neighbourhood.

Good day.

Is there something you can do to brighten the road sign lettering?

It is difficult to see the sign. There must be something nice out in the market..

BHOA,
These changes significantly alter the appearance of Brookview (and for the worse!). As such, a consultation with the community must take place and also approval of the budget for the project.  In particular that the signs are on the private properties.

I strongly recommend return to the original look and, for BHOA to start all over with proper approach to both design and budget.

A very concerned Brookview resident

PS — May we opt from paying community fees if these are spent without any input from the community, and on the projects that appear to ‘enhance’ private properties?

I’m sorry, adding those trees or bushes will not improve those rocks.  The rocks are not complementary to the red brick signs and the circular design is out of place and the variety of rocks in the circular bed are clustered unflattering and the colours of the rocks do not blend with the whole area.

I’m sorry but as an individual in the design industry, I do not find this visually balanced.  My opinion is to lose the big tall rock.  You already have the brick pillars on each side and the rock is throwing it off balance.  I agree it is also a climbing hazard for children.
I also hope the letters are going to be polished and brightened up so they pop a little more.

Thank you to the committee for working to make our neighbourhood beautiful again!

Personally I think the landscaping is beautiful. I can hardly wait for Burley Drives entry to be done.

Great work...thank you

The Crier Announcement System was created to make residents aware of issues that concern all of the surrounding areas of Riverbend/Terwillegar/Windermere.   Issues include crime awareness and community announcements and any other news worthy items, as well as allow the residents express their concerns and opinions about matters that are important to the general community. The Crier concept is based on the idea of the old town crier of medieval England.  The town crier would walk the streets ringing his bell, shouting "Hear Ye, hear Ye",  followed by an important community announcement.  The Crier is the property of and controlled solely by resident Harold Hornig.
